Pirate101 PvP

Pirate101 is proud to present our initial implementation of PvP! For 2012, we are introducing a "Practice Mode" PvP combat system that you can experience in both your housing and in open PvP areas on Skull Island!

The new Practice PVP system only showcases battleboard combat and currently does not feature a ladder, matchmaking, awards, or the introduction of "PvP Only" / "No PvP" flags for player gear. (This is just the beginning as a full implementation of PvP is still in the making.) Please read more about the philosophy behind our newest feature in this public announcement from J. Todd Coleman.

How Do I Get Started?

PvP totems and sigils have been added to the Pirate101 World in a couple of different areas:
  • Open 4 versus 4 PvP can be found on Skull Island. Look for the Brawlin' Hall and Spar Chamber behind and to the side of the Kraken Skulls Tavern.
  • 1 versus 1 PvP can be found in a couple of our Player houses: The Volcano Island from the exclusive (and no longer available) Boochbeard Bundle and the Castaway's Cove from the GameStop Cutthroat Bundle
To begin, approach the PvP sigils and press X. Next, select if you’d like to join the blue or red team. You must have at least one player for each side to begin a practice PvP session (you’ll know how many players can join a PvP match by the number of available sigil spots displayed). Once the sigil countdown has completed, you’ll then have a limited amount of time to choose the companions you’d like to bring into the fight (much like you would for an Epic Boss Battle).

Special Rules

  • Fleeing is allowed.
  • The "Pirate" talent will be active.
  • Player avatars cannot be charmed (or targeted) but Companions can be.
  • Players cannot eject someone from their house (via Friends menu) during PvP.
  • The Crown Shop is available during combat.
  • (Known issue) Traps can be seen by opposing team.
  • (Known issue) Players using stealth abilities can still be seen by their opponents.

Combat Phases

After choosing your companions, each team will have their own Planning / Execution stage and the game will randomly choose which team enters combat first. That team will plan and execute their combat phase, followed by the second team. Finally, the pets/summoned creatures of first team will then get a turn followed by the pets/summoned creatures of the second team. Combat will continue in this order until one team is defeated.

At the end of combat, both teams will receive a notification of which side won the combat.

Interview with Kelsey Fireheart!

Me: Hey Kelsey to get started. You have a site called Stars of the spiral, Tell us about the amazing site.

Kelsey: Hello. Stars of the Spiral is an informative site all about Kingsisle's great games; Wizard101 & Pirate101. We hope to make the gaming experience a bit easier when they need the help. And mostly to have FUN!

Me: The site is really fun!

Me:  Ok, How is Pirate101 going? Any favorite companions or pets?

Kelsey: My favorite companion is the Weasel Gambler. I love the way he throws his cards at the enemy. It's very original! My favorite pet would be the Blue-Ringed Walktopus. It's just so cute!

Me: Good choice! Ok, What do you LOVE about Pirate101?

Kelsey: Exciting and you just want to keep going and become the best ship fighter in the spiral!

Me: Whats your favorite world in Pirate101?

Kelsey : Mooshu no question. The beauty of the world is just breathtaking. It is the best world I've seen so far in both games. I hope they continue crafting amazing worlds like Mooshu. I am happiest there, it's incredibly peaceful and it's even hard for me to stop taking pictures there.

Me: I am a picture person XD, Ok, What class do you recommend for all Pirates in the skyways?

Kelsey: Everyone is different. But I notice a lot of people like Swashbuckler. It seems to be a very well rounded class. Its easy to start with.

Kelsey: Fearless Kristen Eastwick is a dashing swashbuckler who loves fighting ships, collecting loot and gaining new members for her crew as well as pets. She wants to get to El Dorado and uncover the mystery there.. and the loot!

Interview with Ian Stormstaff, 80th post!

Blaze: Hey Ian. Let's get started, You play Wizard101 & Pirate101 by Kingsisle, Tell us about your Character Ian Stormstaff and Ian Sharp?

Ian: Let's see, Ian StormStaff is believe it or not the first wizard I made. He is also my current wizard and even though I've been playing 4 years STILL hasn't finished the game. Or even come close. Ian Sharp however is already at level 17 and Pirate101 has been out less than 6 months. He's a dashing Swashbuckler currently snooping around Cool Ranch.

Blaze: You also have a blog, Wizard unites or also known as WU, Anything about it? Achievement?

Ian: Wizards Unite is my first and longest surviving community project. My goal is to have a place people enjoy going to for fun posts, contests, guides, and even a small community. It's been slow work but in this past year (2012) WU has sort of blossomed and now has over  50 registered members and we've been pretty successful in the contest department. My goal is to be an official fansite so I can shower my renders with gifts

Blaze: You achieve that goal! (Big fan) Now you've been playing Wizard101 for a LONG time. Any favorites? NPC, Pets, Spells, Creatures?

Ian: Hmm. My favorite spell is DEFINITELY StormZilla and I'm really attached to my pet StormZilla, Sparky. My favorite NPC is Dr. Purrou JUST because he says "really" in a cool accent. My favorite in game hobby is furniture hoarding.

Blaze: Amazing! Kraken for the win, You also play Pirate101  any favorites? NPC, Companions, Pets, Worlds, Enemies etc?

Ian: Favorite weapon is Fin's knives. LOVE them. Favorite companion is probably The Crazy Monquistan, Martin Ortega, because he says "alright Capitan" when you order him. World is prob Valencia. It looks pretty amazing. also I really wish you could buy an Armada ship, THEY look cool! The Walktopus pet is Cool! He spins and trawls when he kills something.

Blaze: Wait till ye hear Old Scratch "Captain my captain" Do you have any tips for the Wizards & Pirates in the spiral?

Ian: Tips for Wizards and Pirates... Hmm. Be wary of Crowns. Often there are equal or better items ahead in the game. I spent 9k Crowns on a boat. Other then that help your friends :)

Blaze: For sure! Last question for this interview, You're on a Prodcast called "Wizard101 Ramblers"  Anything new coming up? What do you & Jordan have in plan?

Ian: We're hoping to do a contest soon. Other than that its just make you guys laugh as we struggle to make it. One day we hope to maybe go weekly and do a P101 Flipside similer to Po8.

Blaze: Awesome, Know you can do it. Well that's it, Thank you Ian for the time to be interviewed!

Ian: Thank you for the wonderful opportunity!
